Suspected abuse at Our Lady of Mercy College

The Herald Sun reported on 15 September 2020 that Our Lady of Mercy College has launched an investigation after former students contacted the school about allegations of inappropriate behaviour by former teachers in the 1990’s.

In the article, there is reference to a former PE teacher Graham Partington who was convicted of offences dating back to the 1990’s. These offences were not associated with the school but rather in Partington’s role as a gymnastics coach.

The school has appointed Simon Davies of “Safeguarding Services” to investigate any allegations of inappropriate behaviour by teachers towards students. The school has rightly encouraged any survivors to contact Victoria Police.

If you have been a victim  of abuse whilst a student at Our Lady of Mercy College, we strongly recommend that you receive advice as to your rights before contacting the school. We also strongly recommend that you do  not sign any statements or provide any material to the school before getting advice.
